Snow Load Classifications

The map shown below indicates which amount of snow accumulation is predictable in your specific region.  This will give you an idea of which roof ice melting system is engineered to work best at melting icicles and dam formations in your area.  Class 1 is going to be the model of choice for the Utah homeowner.

CLASS 1 AREA

Heavy snow accumulation

  • If the snow is greater than 15" on the roof for the greater part of the winter
  • If your annual snowfall is more than 100"
  • Mountain areas such as: Northern Idaho, British Columbia, Northern Montana Ski areas or the Canadian Rockies
  • Mountain areas above 6,000" in elevation such as: Jackson Hole ski areas, Colorado Rockies, California Sierras, Oregon and Washington Cascades or Sun Valley
  • Resort areas in New England

CLASS 1 AREA

Product Selection Guide

  • Patented Roof Ice Melting System eave heating panels (36w/ft) for ice dam & icicle prevention on the roof eaves
  • Patented Roof Ice Melting System valley heating panels (24wt/ft) for roof valleys and ice dam avoidance
  • Self-governing, SRH (12wf/ft) heating cable for downspouts and gutters
  • Custom Ice Roof Melting System panels for unique roof configurations
  • Patented Roof Ice Melting System LP heating panels (24wf/ft) for icicle and ice dam avoidance on the eavesof a low pitch roof( less than 3/12 pitch roof)

CLASS 2 AREAS

Moderate Snow Accumulation

  • If the snow is anywhere between 6' to 15' for the greater part of the winter
  • If your annual snowfall is less than 100"
  • Areas such as: high plains and high desert areas and the Western United States
  • Pennsylvania and up into Massachusetts, Nebraska up into North Dakota, and the upper Mid-West to the East Coast

CLASS 2 AREAS

Product Selection Guide

  • Patented Roof Ice Melting System 2 valley heating panels (16WT/FT) for roof valleys and ice dam avoidance
  • Patented Roof Ice Melting System 2 LP heating panel (16wt/ft) for icicle and ice dam avoidance and roofs that have low pitched eaves (less than 3/12 pitch roof)
  • Self-governing, (8wt/ft) heating cable for downspouts and gutters
  • Self-governing, (8wt/ft) heating cable in zigzag layout for valleys, eaves and straight runs in downspouts and gutters for Class 2 areas with less accumulation of snow buildup

CLASS 3 AREAS

Light snow accumulation

  • If the snow is less than 6" for the greater part of the winter
  • If the annual snowfall is less than 30"
  • North Carolina up to Maryland, New Mexico up to Eastern Colorado and in the Middle United States
